Ports of LA/LB delay container dwell fee for another week

The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are continuing to delay implementing a container dwell fee, as long staying cargo in the ports reduces further.

The two Southern Californian ports have against announced another week’s delay in introduction of the container dwell fee announced in late October last year saying that “aging cargo” on the docks has reduced by 62% since the programmed was announced.

The introduction of the fee has now been put on hold until at least 28 January.

A week earlier the two ports announced the duration of programme which penalises long staying containers had been extended to 29 April.

The fee would see a $100 per day charge for containers that remained in the terminals for nine days for or more for containers moved by truck, six days for those with rail connections. The fee would to be levied on shipping lines who have made it clear that it will be charged back to customers.
