ONE, HMM, and Yang Ming Line Forge New Alliance for Transatlantic Trade in 2025

The shipping industry is gearing up for significant changes as the new alliance between Ocean Network Express (ONE), HMM, and Yang Ming Line is set to launch in February 2025. This development comes on the heels of Hapag-Lloyd's departure from ONE to partner with Maersk in the Gemini Cooperation, which does not plan to cover the Transatlantic trade.

A Strategic Collaboration with Ocean Alliance

ONE, headquartered in Singapore, will join forces with Ocean Alliance members CMA CGM, Cosco Shipping Lines, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), and Evergreen Marine. Together, they will operate three North Europe Transatlantic services under a vessel-sharing arrangement.

Jeremy Nixon, CEO of ONE, expressed optimism about the new collaboration:
"We look forward to working with CMA CGM, Cosco, OOCL, and Evergreen in the Transatlantic trade. This partnership allows us to combine our collective fleet deployment and market expertise to deliver reliable and comprehensive end-to-end services across key Transatlantic market sectors."

The three services will connect 14 ports, strengthening trade links between North Europe and North America.

HMM Returns to the Transatlantic Trade

South Korean shipping company HMM will also re-enter the Transatlantic market in collaboration with ONE, offering a single service that extends to the U.S. West Coast via the Panama Canal. Dubbed AL5 by ONE and TA1 by HMM, the service underscores HMM’s commitment to expanding its global reach.

An HMM spokesperson remarked:
"The launch of the TA1 service marks a significant step in enhancing our global competitiveness. We remain dedicated to providing industry-leading logistics solutions to our customers worldwide."

Regulatory Approval Pending

The new services, which promise to bolster connectivity and efficiency for the Transatlantic trade, are currently subject to regulatory clearance. If approved, the alliance will address critical market needs following Hapag-Lloyd’s exit and set a new benchmark in global shipping collaboration.

This strategic realignment is poised to reshape the landscape of Transatlantic trade, delivering enhanced options and reliability for shippers starting in 2025.
